Why You Should Use a CD DVD Label Printer

There are some very good reasons to use a CD DVD label printer, and equally good reaons not to go with handwritten text using a permanent marker, commonly known as a sharpie.

Quite apart from looks and ease of indexing, there are some issues with using marker pens on CDs and DVDs:

  • With cheap discs, the media itself is just below the printing layer and there is a chance the life expectancy of the CD will be reduced by the solvents in markers or adhesive labels (although this is not as much of a problem with a DVD, which is constructed differently to a CD);
  • If the discs are destined for anyone’s eyes but your own, they won’t look very professional;
  • It is much more difficult to find the one item you’re searching for among a heap of discs all with similar-looking scribbles on them.

So, even if you decide to take a chance on a possibly shorter disc life, there are two major reasons for buying – organization and presentation. Of course, both motives apply to the home user just as strongly as to the business professional.

With modern labeling design software and an affordable CD DVD label printer, typical home and SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) uses include:

  • Archiving and organizing CD or DVD collections of music and photos (and which true-blue collector does not have the odd duplicated disc in his or her collection, which would look much better with a scanned image of the original printed on to the duplicate disc?);
  • Organising - Creating your own labels will make it easier for you to identify what’s on your archive CDs or DVDs just by looking at them;
  • Personalizing - An increasingly common use is to distribute personalized photo collections of special events, such as a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or a special holiday;
  • Friends and family are starting to share photos on CD/DVDs – and in our style-conscious society, it does make a good impression when you add a customized label;
  • What about creating family photo archives or organizing your data backups properly?
Any or all of these activities are a breeze with the right CD DVD label printer.
